Theme Thursday - Suitcase

“Big...see...I, I don't want one for one night. I want something for a thousand and one nights. With plenty of room here for labels from Italy and Baghdad, Samarkand...a great big one.”

“I see, a flying carpet, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“I don't suppose you'd like this old second-hand job, would you?”

“Now you're talking…Gee whiz, I could use that as a raft in case the boat sunk. How much does this cost?

“No charge.”

“That's my trick ear, Joe. It sounded as if you said ‘no charge’.”

“That's right.”

“Well, what's my name doing on it here?”

“A little present from old man Gower. Came down and picked it out himself.”

“He did?! What do you know about that...my old boss. Isn't that nice? "

When I heard the theme for Thursday was to be "Suitcase" this scene from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life" was the first thing I thought of. George Bailey who thought that the most exciting sounds in the world were anchor chains, plane motors, and train whistles, never experienced travel; he stayed in Bedford Falls all his (wonderful) life.

One of my post labels is "The Suitcase". Click on the label "The Suitcase" below and you can see articles I've written on places I've been or places I long to go.

Please check out Theme Thursday for other participants contributions.

Script-o-rama at http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/i/its-a-wonderful-life-script.html did the transcribing for me. Thanks.

Hi Hazel: I apologize for my absence, and thanks for your recent visits. Sooo busy this week.

I love this reference to It's a Wonderful Life. Wasn't the aw-shucks kind of dialogue hilarious and corny.

You know, I don't think (or maybe just can't remember) I've ever seen the movie. I'll see if I can hire it on Saturda night. (Just read your Kentish Pie post . .so going to do that!)

Very cool - I see we have like memories when it comes to suitcases, as Mr. George Bailey (and that very pic) are on my post today, too! :)

That is such a great scene - symbolic of his big dreams and determination to get away from his small beginnings. What a fantastic film it is! Perfect choice!

I love george bailey

thanks for the heads up on your suitcase tag....I want to go to see those tulip fields!!!!!!!! wow, wow, wow!!!

the fields are inspirational for a nice quilt design!

I'd pack my bag for immediate departure - well it might be a bit late for the peak of tulip season now

so many places on the ol' bucket list!

Corny? As in banal, trite? Nah, with all due respect to the commenter. No.

When you see it on the big screen at AFI (or one near you, but I'm a lucky girl as it's a few blocks from my apt), with a mix of immigrants, older folks, well, everyone. During the holidays, especially this past year, & you see all sorts of teeny details in the set, & so on, it's a whole different animal.

Full-out crying from people who very likely were not going to be able to even go to the theatre again for quite some time; they need to buy food. The family next to me were seeing it as one last splurge before they were foreclosed upon. Seriously.

So forgive my grim comment but this means film means a lot to me.

ciao all

the tulip fields reminded me of Mondrian.

I never saw this movie but a flying carpet sounds nice. No line-ups, no security checks (at least... I hope not.)

Thanks for the visit, clever pup.

I am probably the only person in this country that has never seen that movie!

Wish I'd thought of that first! Perfect homage to the suitcase.

So many people love that film, I almost hate saying that I do, too.

Hi! Clever,
Here I go "piggybacking"again!...I was going to mention
fellow TT member, Wing's post, but I see that he already posted and mentioned his post. And just like the other commenters, I think this is a wonderful movie.

A great scene for your Thursday suitcase theme from a film that...hold on to you hat...that has some "noirish" elements.

Thanks, for sharing!
