I awoke this morning to Paolo Conte on the radio - Jazz FM 91.1 - singing Via Con Me, also known in our household as the S'wonderful song from one of my favourite films, Mostly Martha. How can anything go wrong today?

Here is Paolo Conte live in Amsterdam looking like a big cartoon tigercat.

And the version from the film, with an added foodie surprise.

Ja, what a wonderful film. But I'm still angry at the studio for dubbing the lead male actor's voice with that of a native German speaker. I've often wondered what Sergio's voice really sounds like. Superb performance by Martina Gedeck!

Rouchswalwe, yes - I have heard Sergio (we're engaged, don't you know) on Youtube. His voice is higher than expected. I wish I never knew that it wasn't him.

Wow. Is the whole movie that lovely? Thank you for Paolo Conte. I didn't know about him.

Also - did I hear basil and star anise? I wouldn't have thought to use the two together - but now I will.

Sandra Leigh, Hi - The film is great, sensual, sad and touching. Und ja! basilikum und stern anise zusammen!

One of my favorites as well. Un bello film. I recommend Catarina in the Big City for Sergio C. He is more nuanced in that film & shows great range as not-quite-so-sympatico father & teacher. He's excellent in it (as is the whole cast). It does not ruin one's crush on him at all. And Mme. Pup, just what makes you think that you're the only one engaged to Sergio:)

Thanks for these. It only makes me more determined to make a decision on a laptop & get moving with DSL/wireless (both).

I watched & listened to the video. I know his voice even if I don't recognize his name. Is there a signature song I might recognize? (unless this is it).

Whatever the pros and cons, I enjoyed the video for its quality of sound and the visual - and being introduced to Paolo Conte.

I LOVE Mostly Martha and have it on video (we are currently transferring our foreign films to dvd). It's a charming film.
I also think of Conte singing the "Chips, chips" song (don't know which one it is) on the French Kiss soundtrack.
