Hotel Orphée

Real life intervenes today; dog walking, paid work and a visit from the window salesperson. Windows made me think of the amazing view we had from our hotel in Regensburg the Hotel Orphée when we stayed in the Bavarian town in 2006.

Our balcony was as big as our room and overlooked the town square with the city hall on one side and a view down Wahlenstraße to the left. Eye-tickling blue lobelias festooned the cast iron railings.

A great memory to top this off was that despite votive candles on both the café tables on the balcony we had no matches. Junior Pup and I watched as Husband Pup left the hotel with a candle in hand walked down the cobblestones to a nearby restaurant and came back up the dark street with the lit candle.

The Hotel Orphée is undoubtedly the coolest hotel I have ever stayed in. Absolutely beautiful and a great deal too.

Please check out their link. http://www.hotel-orphee.de/english/

I leave you with two non-digital photos of our views.

My life's dream....to go to Paris. I hope I'm not too old when the opportunity arises.......IF it ever does. Sigh!

Haven't been in Regensburg since the late 70s but it was really pretty. As a (very young & poor) undergrad I couldn't stay any place as lovely as this (& didn't expect to--I think that might be the difference between global recessionistas then & now) but enjoyed myself with friends. Will consult with friend in Germany who helps with "memories" on this score. But we sure did have fun.

We would go into places like this & perhaps order tea or coffee & split a piece of torte or other treat. People were always so nice about this. From home in Strasbourg, through Germany to Italy, etc.

Years older, in much better financial shape, but still an academic-in-training, I did similar in the famous King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Two glasses of tea & one celebrated macaroon from the Hotel. Splitting it. Everyone was oh-so-kind about it. Others have told me they were not treated as well. I think it has to do with attitude because I was never, in all my trips, treated poorly due to lack of funds. People were tickled that I so wanted to be there that I would ask if I could share with someone,so that we could experience their beautiful cafe or lobby or whatever it happened to be. Thank you for this, Hazel.

I enjoyed the tale of Husband-Pup seeking fire for his famille.;)

Have a productive day--in real life. xo svs/gg

I, too, have that picture of the dark night and the candle getting dimmer. I'll be back to check out the other stories....I always find something interesting when I'm in a rush! Expecting house guests...

What a beautiful memory. I'll bet you remember it every time you light a candle.
