What the (Deuce)?

Waaaw! I want somebody to pay me 40K a month for posting pictures of my dog and sparkly rings and for shooting my mouth off about motherhood as if I had just invented it.

To top it off, whenever I visit her site my Internet Explorer breaks!!

So you don't like Dooce?

The Clever Pup said...

Char, No. I just want some of what she's got. I've only just discovered her on Oprah. She gets paid a surprising sum for surprisingly little.

Pay me, too. I want money for my crappy photographs.

Great site. Love To. too. As a B-Lonian I applauded the fine tastes and high standards of Torontians when they opted to not buy tickets to B-Lo Bills games in To and doesn't Mr. Rogers die on the day of the first game, talk about ominous....

Wow, Hazel. I just went over there to check it out. I'm thinking about that ditty "do what you love and the money will follow." I would not feel good about writing some of that content. Not to be meanspirited, but...I just wouldn't.

When I was starting my blog I did see a couple sites stating that the most-read blogs are those that have a lot of criticism, sex, drugs, etc. in them. So.

We need classy places to go in blogland, and your blog is on top of that list, dear!!

(By the way, I've been feeling kind of sad since last week that I was critical of Chico's and Coldwater Creek. Then I found a lovely tote bag, second hand, from Coldwater Creek. I stand corrected.)

hello. i've come to you from willow's blog. i liked your comment to her about your father's accident (brain injury?) and once here, i like your smile, the color of your blog's background, your art, and your posts.

so if you don't mind i'll be back. and if you want to visit me, you'll find a writer and occasional chatterbox.

:)

Sure sounds like she's got it all figured out!

I would agree. Maybe, in the beginning she had something to offer but to read about what I do on any given day is a waste of my time. I used to follow but have gotten much more into photography and blogs like yours and the others that I stumbled upon on TT.

I rather be uplifted and escape my daily chores than relive them.

Oh, add to the list of blogs that I don't understand the following and there are so many..."design" blogs.

Now, there are true designers that are displaying some of there best works and the road it took to get there. However, I don't get those blogs that just mooch off of other sites and post images on there's to provide some commentary. I love to look at beautiful things too. But how about creating it, as well?

Well, If you'll let me vent for just a minute more...

Maybe it's because I'm older but I have no time for the I "heart" whatever. I know it's taken from a movie, but for heaven's sake. We didn't say "I Heart New York" because there was an image instead of a word.

The other thing - "I'm loving this" or "I'm so loving that" Why does love have the "ing" on it now? It was a verb before too.

Over and out on my complaining. Have a nice weekend everyone.

H-pup...commented on your comment on my one site. Ack. I said I hope you didn't take this down & really hope you don't now that others have commented.

It's not surprising that Oprah had someone on who shares her love of talking about poo. The last few times I tuned in (she was here in DC), she actually started again with her, uh, digestion activity reports. Ugh.

Last week I posted something about wanting to shut up (I will) because I'd taken a trip around the blogosphere. It wasn't the political stuff, it wasn't gossip sites. It was the kind of thing people have noted here.

About these "design" blogs that mooch stuff. How about "steal" stuff? Some of us who make sure we attribute & link & ask permission, etc. are kinda steamed. If someone gets a large enough following, then photographers & others are loathe to protest. By that time, the blogger can funnel some $/traffic their way & esp. now, that's hard to turn down. I know this FOR SURE because several photographers who've granted permission to me for use (& who are astounded that I asked) have told me so, & gave specific examples.

I'm nauseated by looking at every fair-use legal site I can find, etc. And then weighing it all...& THEN, going to see sites that have been around from "beginning." Wow, all of us could've done THAT (copy, copy, copy).

I've had to stop "following" some folks because the dial-up takes so very long to load everyone's feeds. And others I'd like to follow, I just can't. I need to post something & will. I've rec'd a few emails saying, "don't you like me anymore?" Yes, I do. But waiting more than 20 minutes (I'm not exaggerating) for my blogger dashboard to load is beyond bearable. And that would be every single time I need to open it.

I feel really sorry about some folks because it was great to see stuff quickly. There were/are a few, though, who seem to publish their every doodle, thought, etc. They need to develop a Twitter habit & now. To them I say (along with pls develop your Twitter habit & leave the rest of us alone): even my mother & grandmother had standards about what they put up on the fridge! (And this isn't addressed to a single person who posted as I typed this....) xoxoxo

Pheww, GG

I have to admit that although I try to attribute and link wherever I can, sometimes a piece of fine art slips into my site uncredited.

Sorry to any owners of masterpieces that I may be offending. Thank you Giulia, I will try my best from now on.

hi P,

all this has me, still, confused! Who is dooce, and who is the one who wears sparkels on Oprah.
and I wonder about blogs that take too long to open--does mine do that, what makes a blog take a long time to open? I am still kind of new at this actually.

The Clever Pup said...

Hi Beth,

I think I'd better make this is my last comment on this matter.

Dooce is a cause celebre blogger who got fired for her blog. She's been blogging since '01 and she is extremely popular. I've been to her site and it's nothing much. Yacking about her great kid, her pregnancy, a daily picture of her dog and a daily picture of something stylish - hence the ring. She was on Oprah and it was revealed that her on site ads produce 40,000 in revenue every month.

i read lots of biographies & memoirs so for me blogs are an extension of that. other women's lives & struggles (& dooce has had her share) are interesting to me. & i do find her funny. her content is certainly original. she's not selling ad space on the unknowing backs of others who created it for her.
so she's figured out how to make money in a brand new market...what's bad about that?

lettuce said...

I visited her blog once, couple of years ago - I agree, there was nothing esp. interesting there....

still, I'd do it for only 30K!!

California Girl said...

wow, this inspired beaucoup comments.

maybe an "Anti Dooce" blog would sell. Everyone could contribute and split the proceeds.

Really fun comments and I thought I was the only one to not get it/her/dooce.

Controversy!? Where have I been?

When I discovered Dooce about two years ago I read all her posts from the beginning as though it was a novel. I was and still am fascinated by her humor, her intelligence and her guts. I think she is too happy now so her stuff is less angst -ridden. Could happiness be the enemy of blogging? the way she deals with hate comment is pretty inspiring to me.
