Our New Tradition

I’ve started a new tradition in my house stemming from the fact that on Fridays I don’t feel like cooking.

For years, when our boys were younger, my friend and I would enjoy a glass of wine or two (or three) on Fridays after school while our boys played. After nibbling, noshing and chatting we’d go our separate ways. When I toddled home around 6:30, I really didn’t feel like making dinner.

To top it off some Fridays my husband would be off doing the same; sharing a pint with someone after work.

So I instigated the Dip Dinner. My friend and I usually had some pretty nice snacks to go with our wine habit and there’d be pesto, hummus or cheese left over. I told my son and husband that I was going to put together a platter of dips, vegetables, bread and cheeses and we could all eat when we felt like it.

I received a Tagine from my love at Christmas and instead of putting the Dip Dinner on a pickle tray or some such thing, I use the gorgeous Tunisian Tagine. I cut some pita, sometimes add rice and away we go.

Last night’s dinner consisted of: nuked cubes of butternut squash, spicy rice with bottled red peppers thrown in, cucumbers, olives, hummus and Baba Ghanouj. It’s always fun. And now it’s always anticipated too.

Wow! It still looks like a lot of prep went into this. Or maybe it just looks that way. Very creative!

It all sounds delicious. (I once had a friend who instigated the same family meal once a week. But hers was designed to clear the fridge and it was called Smash and Grab!) Unfortunately I'm married to an elderly Brit who likes his 'meat and two veg'!!!!!!

(Your word verification is TARLINI. Isn't that nice,)

There rings a spirit of comfortable acceptance and flexible welcome to this practice. Your Family is richly blessed with its celebration of such a sweet, Human dynamic on a regularly anticipated basis. Absolutely lovely!

Lovingly ...

Delish. I'm hungry and this isn't exactly what I should have looked at. Probably will go raid the fridge now, in the middle of the night.

It's a fun idea!

Yummy! And everything is special by candlelight, isn't it?

Great picture. It makes me want to move right in for one of your dip dinners. I don't want to cook on friday nights either.
