| Renoir found at Virginia Flea Market |
Personally we've made a couple of interesting flea market/auction purchases that are probably worth a little more than what we originally paid. A Robert Swain Gifford etching of "The Path by the Shore" is worth 3X the $50 I paid for it.
A faded print by The Group of Seven's Varley was bought for $38 and I determined that it was framed by the National Gallery of Canada's master framer circa 1962. And a printer's proof by Jean Carzou bought at auction for $100 is worth a lot more, although NO ONE at the Carzou Museum in the south of France is interested in evaluating it for me.
But this find by an American woman takes the cake. The little plaque says "Renoir" but she almost threw out the painting in favour of the frame. Please read more from Art Daily News at the link below.
