His Royal Purpleness

Wait for it... at about the 3:35 mark Prince appears and reminds me that despite his flakiness that he is a great guitar player. That is George Harrison's son Dhani.

Prince bought a house in Toronto in 2004. I think he's still here - I haven't heard that he moved. It's just off the Bridle Path. I heard a clip on CBC Radio, when they were asking for "brushes with fame", from a middle-aged fellow who said he and his teen-aged son used to jam at a Yorkville bar; he played guitar and his son drummed. Prince jumped on stage unannounced and joined them. Dad bowed and gave up the spotlight and let his son bask in the experience of drumming with Prince.

You know - I was going to place the video of the half-time show here but Prince wants all unauthorized clips of him taken of Youtube. The performance can be viewed here at dailymotion.com if you're curious.

It's eerie how much Dhani looks like his Dad – my fave Beatle!

Thanks for sharing!

Yay! You know friends just saw him in Minn. but they think he was just visiting...so probably still in Toronto. He is a freaking guitar genius, yes. I was just shouting in my own head when I typed that...before, too little caffeine, now too much (maybe). Plus, the subject of guitar players (of all kinds/genres/etc) gets me going. (Also, greatest drummers.) It's kind of a parlour game I play with an older male friend who knows & has seen it all. Just about, yeah. But he has also taken me to see some I had left out of my personal 'canon.'

Happy May Day. The trouble-making kind.

ciao, Hazel

Me, again. Also Tom Petty's Lft. Mike Campbell is a great, great player. And they just had a blast playing that with Prince.

I guess my son had (has) ALL Prince records! Of course he (the son) now left home, but some of his (Prince's) music still rings in my ears! With the time, I learnt more and more to appreciate!

Tons of fun!

I always wanted to be a musician. Alas, no talent, so I married well. I love the spontaneous jam sessions when friends come to visit.

I realize this is almost totally irrelevant, but I knew George Harrison's nephew.

Best guitar solo ever? That would have to be by Alvin Lee, surely?
