What would you do...

Good question.

I found this question posed on the site of a new follower, Marion Williams-Bennett at Create Joy and Wonder.

There are the big things of course – instituting education for everyone. Emancipation for all women. Birth control – condoms for all. Time Travel.

But the question struck me as more intimate than that. What would you do if you could not fail? If you had complete financial freedom and freedom from family obligations?

I still don’t know what I’d do for a career but here are a few things I’d probably cross off my Life List.

I’d travel – all the time. I’d probably want to stay in Paris for a few years and learn the language. Shame on me – a Canadian – for not being bilingual already! Heck, I’d learn more than just French. I’d be fluent in German, Italian and Spanish too.

I’d go to University. Why not the Sorbonne? I’m fluent, after all. I’d take Art History and become a world-renowned art authenticator. Cool!

I’d go to Chef’s School. I’d graduate top of my class. I'd make delicious and decadent things but I wouldn't gain an ounce. I’d open a small and popular café and name it something cute. I’d populate the walls with great paintings that I’d done myself.

In my spare time I’d front an all-boy band. Like Blondie or Pat Benatar. (Betraying my age here) Because in this world where I cannot fail I can sing like crazy.

What would you do if failure was not an option?

Excellent Brian. You could do it too. You could do it now!

Hmm. Maybe I'd write mystery novel and find Queen Hatsepshut's tomb.

I can tell this is going to be very theraputic.

Still working on my list, Pup. The obvious ones I'll leave off (Darfur, etc.)

Such an interesting question. My list started with Ease pain. Bring laughter. Then I realized the list was theoretically endless. Much to think about.

I dont know much about you and your life, but why dont you start doing some of them. Once I made a list like that, then I realize that I did not start doing them because I do not want to leave my comfort zone, or simply I am just too lazy.. Love the post..

Turquoise Diaries, (so many blogs have "blue" in them. It must appeal to us on a basic level)

Anyway TD. Yes, comfort zone, definitely laziness, family, money, ailing mother - they all keep me from doing these things. I'm basically very timid. We tried to move to Europe a couple of years ago but the above kept us grounded.

Good question.
I'd travel more as well, sometimes when I'd feel like but most of all I would buy an house with sea view and a laptop and I would write books and poetry for the rest of my life!I really need nothing more than this!

Ah Brian is me mentionning Atlantis!Really interesting!;)

Had an interesting conversation once with a friend born and raised in Japan about this very quote. She looked at me and said, "how is that different from asking ~ what would you do if you knew you could not die?" We then pulled an all-nighter talking about the ramifications.

Write a novel, be a winning equestrian, and bag a Munro.

I'd give health care to all, summer camp to every kid and get a makeover on "What Not to Wear".
Oh, and I'd go live in Paris, too, or Italy.

Pamela, I had to look up the term "bag a munro". I learn something new everyday.

I'd be a full time writer. It's the easiest question for me because that has been my dream for years but have always been too obligated to family & bills to go for it. I tell myself if I really wanted it badly enough, I'd work around work. (That's my insecurity talking)
