Two Sisters

Here's a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir that one of my mother's favourites.

The Toronto Reference Library has a 1912 directory for Paris. In it I was able to find the addresses and phone numbers for many important citizens, including Renoir!

So are you going to write to zee current residents? Or probably you have already? I would. Not that I would tell you what to do or anything. ahem.

It's one of my favorites, too. Very nice to see it again - against the gray of your site the color pops, perhaps more than on white.

Oh I love this one! My second daughter used to look identical to the little girl when she was about that age..We used to see this print everytime we went to the dentist (he had it up in the waiting room)and my son, who was about 3 years-old back then, used to think it was a painting of her! Thanks for bringing back that memory:)

Love this painting. What a great find that phonebook is--imagine if it could link you back to 1912 and you could ring up Renoir, or Picasso or Gertrude Stein...(oooh, light bulb!)Thanks for this!!

I've always liked this one. It looks marvelous with the lavender background of your blog page.

The older girl looks wistful, doesn't she? Dreaming dreams. Lovely painting.

I had no idea that the TPL had such a thing. Whatever prompted you to look up the directory? Please do tell us what Renoir's address was!

that is so cool that you found that - even cooler that you looked for the numbers.

DS, yes, I found Colette and Willy, Picasso Pissarro and Renoir.

And Ingrid, when I get back to my house (I'm at my mother's for a while) I'll share Pierre-Auguste's address and number. I think it was maybe rue Caulaincourt in Montmartre, but I'm not sure.

I just found a news article to say that this house was up for sale last year. I think I'll post about it.

That's so fun that you have that old city directory for Paris. And I thought it was interesting that our library has them for our little town. Cool.
