One Person's Treasure ...

I found the ends of this great old cast iron bed in the trash last week. Besides turning it back into a bed, does anyone have any unique ideas for what I can do with the head and foot boards?

Right now it's propped up in the yard. I thought I could train sweetpeas on it but I'm scared it will get rusty out there.

Ah, rust. I was going to say, "looks great where it is!" But the corrosion of the outdoors, something my impractical mind wouldn't have considered.

Can you not coat it with some weatherproof substance? It really does look lovely, curling white over and through a passionate green.

Maybe make it back into a bed - but bring the leaves!

Looks nice where it is with the surrounding foliage; like a gate to nowhere. Or, that metal wall art is back in - prop it up on a wall, either inside or out.

As une bricoleuse, I feel uniquely qualified to say: whatever strikes your fancy. (Propping it up as wall art--in or outside-suggested by Ladybug appeals greatly to me as well.)

As someone who has hoped every single day for five years to find something like this because my bedframe is broken & propped up with big books, I wish you lived nearby so I could plead my case in person to take it off your hands (in exchange for what-I-don't-know).

As a person who misses having a garden, I might do something along the lines of suggestions above (weather-proofing, etc.) & trail vines.

But really, all I can think of are the pix I have of beds-made-from-found wrought iron & how I want it. And here I blasted people in the GG's blog for their selfishness. Sigh. Once again, I prove my selfishness-in-spades...

I vote for the bed, I really do. So now I have my next post (or really, the get up & go to put it together with title & tell people to come over here & give their opinion...

It would make a gorgeous bed! But it's interesting outside, too. I like the rusty patina look. Fantastic find, Ms. Pup!

I, too, am jealous & wish I could have it for a bed...failing that, why not a garden gate--it would be awesome! But, you are such a Clever Pup, you think of something inspired & the rest of us will be smacking our heads, crying "Aha--if only!"

Sweetpeas come and go (and how I love them), so you could treat the frame each year. I would prefer to look at it than sleep in it!!

They are lovely as photographed and I can see sweetpeas gracing their contours--but there's that rust lurking, isn't it. Very nice find, however.
Happy Tuesday!

Well, if you have a low bench in an hallway maybe you could hang it behind the bench to make it appear more grand. It would give the bench some style, height and the wall great personality - especially if it isn't white. Great question!! thanks for your post. I'll be back to visit often.

A flower bed, of course! with the headboard on one end and the foot board on the other.
(herbs or veggies would be fun, too)

great find.

or

resell it for a profit!

I would just hang it on the wall, as a decorative piece (similar to those balinese window/door type of things). And even strng some indoor plants around it. Or, paint one of your wonderful murals around it, or prop it in front of a fireplace if you have one? This is such fun, now I want some!

You could hook up some terracota pots filled with geranium. Very french. But did someone already say that? Also, you pay extra in store for a little artificial rust, so I say why not rust it up?

It might cost a bit, but you could put glass behind it and make it into a mirror.

Or suspend it from the kitchen ceiling as a pot rack.
