Being Green AND Red

This red/coral/melon velvet is called Leda and it's made by a company called Toulouse. It speaks to me. Every time I'm at the fabric store, I sign a sample out for 10 days and walk with it room to room - kind of like Linus. I didn't know what to do with it until recently.

We have an exceptionally drafty front door that we block with a tacky curtain in order to keep our heating bills manageable. I decided to use my favourite velvet to replace the old drape. Knowing that the yummy velvet should be backed with something, I rejected the idea of a regular white or beige lining and opted for this dynamic Provençal fabric called Bandol Rayure.

I think it's going to look fantastic.

I looked up your Desert Island Book and read Kiki's Paris: Artists and Lovers 1900-1930. As promised, it presented the life of Alice Prin/Kiki, and her generation in Paris, cafés, studios and cabarets. Kiki and Paris were outrageous, charming, beautiful, talented. They did indeed discuss Matisse, Modigliani, Picasso, Man Ray, Stein, Léger, Cocteau, Brancusi, Soutine etc, some of whom behaved outrageously. But that is the point, isn’t it. Kiki was part of that special era and the height of the artists' community in Montparnasse.

I am having a copy of the book put into the library at work for the students. Many thanks

Ha ha! We have the same drafty front door with a brocade curtain hanging in the foyer to block it. It's quite a nice curtain though - rather Victorian or William Morris-ish with a reddish background and golden cabbage-roses.

I love your choice of fabrics—both sides will be resplendent!

Kat, your curtain sounds beautiful.

Hels! Wow! I'm glad I could recommend it.
