Synchronicity Part 2 - Attic Books

I have another piece of synchronicity with Kat from Poetikat's Invisible Keepsakes.

I only have 2 Canadian readers, besides my mother, and Kat is one of them. She lives about an hour and a quarter away from me and we have never met.

Yesterday (before the dentist) I was preparing to write a small entry about the artist below, Charles van Sandwyk. The only place I have ever seen his work is in a used bookstore in London, Ontario, called Attic Books.

Up pops a post from Poetikat, telling how she had traveled to London this past Monday and had been in Attic Books where she happened upon a favourite childhood book of hers called Tell Me Cat. I was in London this weekend, but for once did not go into Attic Books.

As this is about the 10th thing we've had in common, I contacted Kat and it turns out she had been browsing through the very prints and cards I was writing about. So Kat and I, separated by 75 miles of highway, wrote about items we had bought in the same store (in a city other than our own) and posted it on the same day. I think that's really interesting.

Wouldn't that be fun if the two of you had bumped into each other at Attic Books? It sounds like the kind of place I could get lost in for a few hours, or maybe days.

coincidence? fate? nothing is random.

I nearly put something in last night about a novelist friend's "late" bookstore, "Atticus Books" here in DC. Not today!

And about being in the same place, at same time & meeting years & years later. That's happened to me a few times...it was so weird & cool to realize we'd been at the same small event. (Not in same city, same little thing.) I love this...now, to finally go lie down.

ciao

Yes, it is very interesting. And such coincidences and 'meetings' (noted in cyberspace blogging) would never have been made visible (except by the rare perceptive author, perhaps) if it were not for this incredible technological revolution that bloggers are fortunate enough to be able to utilize today to span the distances from one thought to another.

Giulia/Susan - NO WAY!

We have an Atticus Books in Toronto too.

CP - I look forward to our next "common thread". Kev and I often wonder if we were ever in the same place at the same time before we met. He's from Willowdale and as I spent so much time in Toronto, we figure at least once, our paths must have crossed. It's conceivable that yours and mine have as well. All will be revealed.

I love when this happens.

A few years ago, I found out from an uncle (who lives 3,000 miles away) that my brother (who, at the time, lived 20 miles away) was planning a trip to Ireland at about the same time I was (along with said uncle). We made plans to rendez-vous in a small town in the west of Ireland. When I arrived in Shannon, I looked in front of me in the customs line, and there they were! Later in the trip, while in Dublin for the weekend, Paul and I decided to stop in to a pub to hear some trad. music, and, lo and behold, there sat my brother and his wife, who, incidentally, had dined at the same restaurant as us, just a bit earlier! None of this was planned. In fact, we didn't even know that they were going to be in Dublin.

And my brother and I, who have never been especially close, now share some pretty great memories. Serendipity!

Thanks for nudging this memory into my consciousness.

So when do we rectify this "never met" situation?
